Commissioned by HZM Capital and GATE M, Pocca curated and designed a showroom for GATE M Huazhimen, a new commercial complex under construction in Huajing, Xuhui District, Shanghai. The showroom is used to showcase the project and attract leasing, while also showcasing its research on the local cotton textile culture in Huajing and the process of transforming traditional local culture and material research into contemporary architectural and design language.
(The preface of the exhibition) "GATE M Huazhimen is located in an area rich in cultural resources, including the Ningguo Chan Temple, and the Huang Daopo Memorial Hall. Looking at the historical and cultural context of this region, Huang Daopo, originally from Wuniujing in Songjiang Prefecture (now part of Shanghai), played a significant role in the rapid development of the cotton textile industry and cotton cultivation along the Yangtze River Basin. She was later praised as the 'female textile technologist who clothed the world'. As an outstanding female textile reformer, Huang Daopo embodies the enterprising spirit and humanistic care of Chinese textile culture, representing a distinctive and emblematic background for the area. The Rong Design Library (Pinwu Form) and the 'Dream Weavers' of GATE M Huazhimen began with the traditional culture of Huang Daopo, focusing on the research of related cotton textile crafts, deconstructing these traditional handcrafts, and translating them into a contemporary design language, such as color, material, and graphic design elements and inspirations, to form an unique architectural CMF (Color, Material, Finish) design vocabulary. This is provided for various design teams to apply across different design fields, creating a unique design essence and cultural thread for GATE Huazhimen. This collaboration represents comprehensive and holistic approach that integrates culture and design. It aims to retell the origins of traditional culture, reconstruct the relationship between local culture and people through contemporary design methods and transform GATE M Huazhimen into a new living space that connects tradition and the present."
